Uehara Inden was established in 1582 in Koshu in Yamanashi prefecture in the center of Japan. Since the beginning Uehara was producing leather ware made from deerskin that is finished with Japanese lacquer patterns. This work was required for certain parts of samurai armor.
Deerskin leather is very soft but durable which made it very suitable for armor.
Nowadays Uehara Inden is run by the 13th generation of the Uehara family. It still applies the ancient techniques and patterns on modern objects such as purses, bags, key holder, business card holders and more. The designs applied to the leather are timeless and please people regardless of their cultural background.
