Ishioka Tsugaru Lacquer Nanako Chopsticks
These chopsticks are not only useful but also hand-made and thus unique. As it is not an industrial process, the colors and patterns differ making of this product a unique object. There are two sizes available in order to fit, and be comfortable for anybody.
This pattern is typical of the Nanako nuri, a type of Tsugaru Lacquer using millet, rape or hemp seeds sprinkled over the still-tacky lacquer and then removed after one day.
is a producer of Tsugaru lacquer in Aomori prefecture in Northern Japan. The Tsugaru type of lacquer has over 300 years of history and it differs in the way that instead of being spread all over the surface, the different layers of colored lacquer are applied on chosen area with a spatula. From this technique comes the polychromed, mottled pattern.
